Over the last few years there’s been increasing buzz in business around the art of story-telling and the ability of stories to engage, compel, inspire and ignite people to action.
The two articles below explore different aspects of story-telling.
The first, by MindTools, explores 6 different types of stories. If you’re not already aware of it, MindTools (http://www.mindtools.com/ ) is a free skills training site full of articles, videos, book insights and forums that cover 700-odd leadership, team-building, communication and career excellence skills. The article can be found here: http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/BusinessStoryTelling.htm#np
The second story is by Kim Fleming of Flow Consulting, who comes from 15 years of “professional acting and communicating”, drawing on the fundamental methodologies of actors to tell compelling and engaging stories to connect and influence business audiences. This article focuses more on the stages and process of story-telling: http://www.flowconsulting.com.au/storytelling.html
A quick disclaimer that I have no vested interest in either of these organisations. They’re just good articles!
