‘Competence on the job without the ability to make things happen in the organisation results in wasted effort.’ ( Influencing Within Organisations, Andzr Huczynski)
In ever-flatter organisations, we daily need buy-in from cross-functional business units, senior management and direct reports. Even if we have the authority to ‘make demands’ from any of these parties, which is rare, it’s simply not the most effective way to achieve cooperation, creativity or productivity.
Simply Influencing is a hugely popular workshop that gives practical, easy-to-use skills to make the most of all our daily influencing situations with family, friends and colleagues!
A question has more influencing power than a statement. Put as much effort into planning your questions as planning your advocacy.
Empathically listening requires putting our judgements and opinions on hold and being truly open to the other person’s world view and ideas.
Watch for clues. Is your influencee big picture and strategic? Task oriented and outcome focused? Are they personable, warm and concerned about their team or clients? Or are they thorough, detailed and perfectionistic? Speak in their language, talk to their drivers and you improve your influencing power.
"I wanted to thank you again for yesterday’s workshop. I’ve attended a few professional development sessions in my lifetime but none as interesting and practical as this one. Often, day-long workshops cover a lot of broad material, making it difficult to apply afterwards in a holistic way.
While the content of the influencing workshop is inherently interesting and engaging, I can also see myself keenly applying it in all areas of my life, so it will also be very practical."
Executive Officer, La Trobe University
“I use influencing and collaboration on a daily basis. This session gave valuable, practical information and tools that I can use every day”
“I thought the technology and role plays were more practical than any others I’ve done!”
IAG Motor Assessing Consultant
“Interesting, relevant, motivating, enlightening and fast moving”
Logistics Manager, Mainfreight Logistics
"I now approach influencing very differently. I am less judgemental, I’m doing far more preparation into thinking styles and motivations than I did previously, I’m more analytical and am finding this extremely beneficial especially before high-stakes meetings or formal negotiations.” Telstra Operations
“The content covered relevant topics. The facilitator’s enthusiasm helped us stay focused. This course will be used not only in my professional but also in my personal life!”
GAPbuster (mystery shopping)
“Really relevant for me as my role requires much stakeholder management”
